Verification of measuring instruments – a set of operations performed by the bodies of the State Metrological Service (or other authorized bodies and organizations) in order to confirm the compliance of the measuring instrument with the established metrological requirements.

The purpose of verification is to find out whether the characteristics of the measuring instrument correspond to the regulated values and whether it is suitable for use for its intended purpose.

Verification of measuring instruments is understood as the establishment by a metrological organization of the suitability of a measuring instrument for use on the basis of experimentally determined metrological characteristics and confirmation of their compliance with mandatory requirements.

Measuring instruments of the approved type are subjected to verification upon release from production, after repair and during operation.

The verification procedure is a comparison of the numerical value of a physical quantity measured by a verified measuring instrument with a value measured by a higher accuracy measuring instrument – a standard.

Technically, the verification procedure is a comparison of the numerical value of a physical quantity measured by a verified measuring instrument with a value measured by a higher accuracy measuring instrument – a standard. In this case, the error of the standard must be at least three times less than the error of the verified measuring instrument.

Upon completion of the verification procedure, a certificate of metrological verification with the accuracy data of the device being verified is provided. The certificate is valid for 12 months.
